BHP signs yen steel deal
NZPA-AAP Tokyo Japanese steel makers have signed a yen-denomi-nated export contract with Broken Hill Pty Co, a steel industry source said. The contract involved 20,000 tonnes of hot coil for March shipment and the price was 48,000 yen a tonne FOB Japan, the source said. Japanese steel makers are currently negotiating for yenbased contracts with China, Iran and other nations, and hope the contract with Australia will have a positive effect. The six steel makers involved in the contract are Nippon Steel Corp, Kobe Steel, Kawasaki Steel Corp, Sumitomo Metal Industries, Nippon Kokan K.K. and Nisshin Steel Co Ltd.
