Tempting fare for truancy

By

LES BLOXHAM,

Pssst ... Don’t send the kids back to school next week — take them instead on a super cheap holiday to the Pacific Islands.

From Monday — the day most schools start their new term — Air New Zealand will be offering a $69 return fare to the Islands for children under 15 years who are accompanied by adults. The deal is valid during February, March and April, but travel must begin before May 1 — a week before the school term ends —- and finish no later than May 15. Nevertheless, the fares should prove

popular with pre-school families, or those with older children wanting to duck away for four or five days over the Easter break. Big savings can be gained. For example, parents with two children will be able to save $1560 on a return flight from Christchurch to Nandi on the direct southern connection. The normal excursion fare for the family of four costs $3396. The airline is offering the same deal out of Auckland to Rarotonga, Apia, and Tonga as well as Nandi out of Auckland. Travellers from the south, however, will have to pay the domestic fares to Auckland.
