Lift in gold, steel, oil
NZPA-AAP Melbourne The Broken Hill Pty Co, Ltd, (BHP) reported sharply higher gold output and improved oil and steel production for the seven months ended December, 1987; Gold production leapt .136 per cent in the seven months ended December with output reaching an annual rate of 170,000 ounces. December monthly output was up 13.1 per cent on November and 52.3 per cent on December, 1986, BHP said. Minerals output was higher over-all with gold rising to 99,647 ounces from 42,165 in the seven months. BHP’s share of crude oil and condensate production from its Bass Strait joint venture with Exxon Corp unit, Esso Australia, was 6.8 million kilolitres — an average 201,443 barrels a day. No comparison was given. Local steel shipments were up 200,000 tonnes at 2.5 million tonnes but exports a little lower at 539,000 tonnes, BHP said.
