ASSISTANT MANAGER SALMON FARM SOUTHERN OCEAN SALMON, Ltd, a subsidiary of Salmond Smith Biolab Ltd, has a salmon hatchery and pond rearing operation at Pupu Springs, near Takaka in Golden Bay. A major development programme has resulted in increased production to over 250 tonnes per annum. 1 The position is a new one and involves the I supervision of farm staff (6 fulltime workers, plus casual labour at spawning and harvesting times), monitoring and recording farm conditions, control I of plant equipment and stocks, general care and maintenance of the property and liaison with the I Processor. The appointee will probably be 28-35 years of age and experienced in managing staff. A background i of fish handling or working with other types of live < stock is preferred. Training in salmon farming techniques will be provided by the Farm Manager. Removal assistance will be available, but accom- . modation is not provided. The Assistant Manager will, however, have to live on site from time to time during overnight absences of the Farm Manager. This is a rare opportunity to become involved in an important new industry.
