Final re-run at Denton Park track cycling meeting
Forty-two starters were reduced to six finalists in the closely contested A grade 450 m sprint at the Denton Park track cycling meeting on Wednesday evening. Even then, the final had to be re-run. In the hotly contested first attempt, there was a collision of riders at the first corner which brought down Jon Andrews, William Rastrick, Brian Fowler and Clayton Gyde. Fowler sustained shoulder and wrist injuries which prevented his further participation, but after repairs to bodies, clothing and cycles the event was re-started. In a close finish, Andrews inched past Russell Ownsworth and Rastrick for the win. Several races on the programme were not run because of the strong winds at the track.
