Mr Lipa leaving to tour Europe
PA Auckland The president of the Democratic Party, Mr Stefan Lipa, today begins a six month private trip to Europe. “I am just looking for a change of scene,” said Mr Lipa. Although he is financing his travels from his own resources, he said he planned research into the role of third parties. “I want to gain a different perception to bring back to the party.”
He also intends to spend time with Swiss and Polish members of his family whom he has never met Mr . Lipa . said he had offered to stand aside from his presidency to make his trip. However, he said the party had been happy for him to travel. The party’s vice-presi-dent, Ms Margaret Cook, of Invercargill, will deputise for Mr Lipa in his absence.
