Dogs on beach
Sir,—While recently at South Brighton,. I was appalled at the number of dogs roaming the beach. At times there were up to 10 dogs in our immediate vicinity. On two occasions they were cause for real concern when they continually annoyed and frightened my young family. I support B. Clement’s stance on this issue (January 18) and would like to know what
measures the Christchurch City Council is taking to enforce the by-law banning uncontrolled dogs from the beaches. Maybe the council should re-examine its priorities when it seems to find the resources to enforce by-laws which make money, but ignores others which protect the health and safety of its citizens.—Yours, etc. • # ' ■ ANNE ZWART. January 19, 1988. Sir,—l strongly support the plea from B. Clements (January 18) that families be allowed to enjoy New Brighton beach free of roaming dogs. During the holidays our family visits the beach every fine day and, sadly, the conditions described by your correspondent are regular occurrences. Is it not possible for council staff to enforce the welladvertised restrictions concerning dogs on the beach? — Yours, JIM JOHNSTON. January 18, 1988.
