Youth alerts family
PA Auckland Clifford Foulagi, aged 18, said he was listening to music in his bedroom when he smelled smoke wafting through a Mangere house. He alerted five other family members who also fled. The family used garden hoses in an attempt to quell the blaze until fire- s men arrived.
“The smoke was too black for us and the fire was just too strong to do much at all,” Mr Foulagi said. Sixty to 70 per cent of the house was destroyed. Although the fire was a bleak way to start the year the family had the unity and strength to overcome the experience, he said. “At least I got -the stereo out.” I
