Mr Wally Baker

PA Wellington The former head of the Wellington C. 1.8., Detective Superintendent Wally Baker, has died, aged 66. Mr Baker served in the police force for 38 years, all but three of them in the C. 1.8. He spent most of his career in Wellington where he was involved early in two big homicide investigations. One was

the murder of a Wellington railway station night watchman and the other the killing of a young woman walking in Mt Victoria oh a Sunday morning.’ Mr Baker was also involved in the Bill Sutch prosecutions. In 1975 Mr Baker was awarded the M.B.E. for outstanding police service. He retired in 1981.
