Greater accuracy wanted

PA Wellington The Wellington cricket captain, Robert Vance, a perfectionist, will ask for greater accuracy from his bowlers in its second Shell Cup match against Canterbury at the Basin Reserve today. Wellington’s win in the opening Cup round on Boxing Day was due largely to its bowling attack which turns on the pace of Jonathan Millmow and a reserve to medium pace and spin. They bowled well in defence of a total of 222 against Central but Vance

will ask for an improvement today. “At times we were guilty of bowling both sides of the wickets. That’s something we have talked about and hope to correct. “You aim in one-day cricket to be accurate but at times we tended to be wayward.” Vance had the Australian leg spinner, Bob Holland, as part , of his weaponry on Saturday, using him in an extended spell of seven overs from the twenty-fourth and then to bowl three overs

at the end of Central’s innings. The Wellington captain was able to make his first assessment of the imported player’s ability and will ask him to make minor adjustments to his style. “We’ve decided to change his line,” Vance said. “I believe Bob is going to get a lot of wickets this season. He might go for a few occasionally, that’s always a danger in one-day cricket, but I think he will always be likely to pick up a couple of wickets.
