En Passant should keep Winton rivals in check

Special correspondent Invercargill En Passant, a fine runner-up to Shot in the Gore Cup on Saturday, appeals as a second to none proposition for the $7500 Premier Mares Prelude Mobile Pace at Winton today. The ultra-consistent mare, has drawn handily at six on the front in the one mile feature for mares. The winner of four races this season, she became badly pocketed in

the Gore Cup on Saturday, three deep on the rails in a 3200 metre test marred by a muddling pace. She. was extricated from her tight quarters inside the last 200 m and flashed up for second. It was an eyecatching prelude to today’s major test. Proud Princess, the Southland recordholder for 2200 metres, gets her big chance today. Little has gone right for her this term, but she might well capitalise fully on the ace

barrier draw in the mile assignment against many lesser assessed than her. Ali Malcolmson could quite easily win the T.A.B. double, as Evander Rest is engaged in the first leg, the Businessmen’s Association Handicap. The small track and muddling pace did not suit him in the Gore Cup on Saturday when he struck some early strife in the running. His dashing win beforehand at Wyndham would be a more reliable guide to his prospects today.
