Ann McKenna, the captain of the Canterbury women’s cricket team, accepts a cheque for $2000 from Mr David Broughton, the assistant general manager of the Christchurch Press Company, Limited. The money will be put towards travel expenses for the Canterbury side’s tenth consecutive defence of the national championship, thus relieving the players of some of the financial burden. Canterbury’s first match is against Wellington at Auckland on Monday.
