Baigent change

PA Nelson The new majority shareholders of Baigent Forest Industries, Carter Holt Harvey, have removed the chief executive, Mr Brian Wall. In his place they have appointed Mr Kevin Johnson who is general manager of Carter Holt Harvey Forest, Auckland. Mr Johnson will commute from Auckland. Mr Wall was advised of the change on Monday and left immediately. He said that with the new shareholding the change was perhaps inevitable but the speed unexpected.

Carter Holt Harvey owns 50 per cent of Baigent, Shell Forestry 40 per cent and Todd Forestry 10 per cent. Carter Holt Harvey bought 10 per cent from the other two shareholders. The acting chief executive, Mr Johnson, would not comment on why Carter Holt Harvey wanted a change in management. Questioned about whether the mill was running properly and profitably he said Carter Holt Harvey would not have bought into the company if it did not offer potential.
