Meremere drag racing

Gareth Hogan (Pt Chevalier) won the first round of the international drag racing match race series at Meremere, South Auckland, on Sunday with an Australasian record run of 5.767 s for the quarter-mile. After stopping in the burnout, Hogan restarted and staged the dragster against Rod Bradshaw (Australia) with cold tyres. The record pass was a surprise because of the cold tyres. Hogan said later the car still more

potential as it was running rich and this was indicated by the low 233km/h at the end-of the track.

Shipping delays prevented Bradshaw from carrying out his required pre-race preparations on a fresh engine and on the final race Brad shaw had the misfortune to destroy the brand new combination and could only watch as Hogan disappeared into the traps to set the new record.
