U.S. seeks revenue hikes
NZPA-Reuter Washington U.S. Senate tax-writers, searching for revenue hikes to implement a budget deficit accord between Congress and the White House, are weighing a new proposal to generate SUS23B in taxes within two years.
The Treasury Secretary, Mr James Baker, huddled in private on Wednesday with members of the Senate Finance Committee, which was presented a staff plan that dropped proposals drawing the administration’s strongest objections.
