NZPA-Reuter London The English Football League withdrew its injunction yesterday blocking the publisher, Robert Maxwell, from taking over the interest of s the rock singer, Elton John, io the first-division club, Watford.

A joint statement from the league and Mr Maxwell said that the publisher had agreed in return to sell his shares in another first-division side, Oxford United. Mr Maxwell retains an interest in Derby County, of the first division, and Reading, of the second

division. Last Friday the league was granted a temporary High Court injunction preventing the £2 million ($5.6 million) deal for John’s 93 per cent holding in the club because of concern over Mr Maxwell’s involvement in other teams. The joint statement yesterday said that in the best interests of soccer, Mr Maxwell and his family would dispose of their interests in Oxford to a suitable purchaser who would guarantee the club’s future.
