New Brighton tower plan
A proposed tower for New Brighton was greeted with enthusiasm at a meeting convened by the New Brighton Pier and Foreshore Society last evening. The architect of the New Brighton proposal, Mr Peter Beaven, told the meeting that the 78-metre tower he had designed was not an alternative to the Victoria Square tower but stood as an idea in its own right Mr Beaven, working from a suggestion by a
Burwood resident, Mr Bert Skinner, has designed a concrete tube tower with tapered fins, a covered base, and a twostorey glassed brasserie (eatery) and viewing platform. Concerns were expressed by some people at the meeting at the delays to the proposed oceanarium complex on the foreshore. The developers have until September to get the development under way.
