Obituary Mrs Megan Grant

PA Auckland Mrs Megan Grant, a prominent Auckland abor-tion-law campaigner and self-described radical feminist, has died aged 64. Mrs Grant was a former Auckland branch president of the National Organisation for Women and Abortion Law Reform Association. She helped to set up Sisters Overseas Service

in 1977 to fly women to Sydney for abortions and helped run. the Bruce Burnett A.I.D.S. clinic at Auckland Hospital. Her interest in feminism stemmed from her belief in people’s right to their individuality, she once said. As a child, she refused to wear a red Remembrance Poppy, but showed a white one instead. She refused to take part in what she saw as a glorification of

Mourners at her funeral service carried white flowers. She called herself a radical feminist and supported the extremists in the movement. “The revolutionaries are the spearhead. We need them to ginger usup and make us question. It we don’t question we don’t change,” she said. Mrs Grant is survived by two daughters, a son and her husband.
