Rewi Alley documentary
Television One will screen a special documentary at 7.30 tonight to mark the ninetieth birthday of New Zealander Rewi Alley.
Narrated by the Prime Minister, Mr David Lange, the programme, “The Second Blade of Grass,” looks at Alley’s long association with China, at his work, his achievements and the esteem in which he is held by the Chinese people.
Alley is one of this country’s most honoured expatriates. He walked off a New Zealand backcountry farm in 1927 and subsequently was closely connected with the Chinese Revolution of 1949, and right through to the present day with new methods of education and production in China. He now lives in Beijing.
