Signs going up for Molesworth opening

PA Blenheim More than 100 signs are destined for Molesworth station as Department of Conservation staff prepare to open the property to the public this summer. Although the final management plan for Molesworth has not been released, opening day is expected to be January 4.

The station will open for two months, with vehicular access right

through along the Awatere-Acheron road.

The signs cover everything from the location of toilets to “light no fires.” They identify parts of the station, rivers, advise of inaccessible roads, roads which are closed, and whether to leave gates open or shut. The first sign the public will come across will be at the Awatere Valley turn-off on State highway one. A little further along will be an information

board with a warning that no caravans or buses are allowed.

Department staff will be at each end of the road and everybody entering will be required to sign in and out. There will be a similar book for people canoeing' on the Clarence River.

The precautions would help keep track of all people entering the station in case of potential mishaps, said the department.
