Trackwork Festivity shines in training

Special correspondent Palmerston North Festivity, which ran the race of an improver at the Rangitikei meeting last month, looked good in training at Awapuni yesterday morning. Festivity is engaged in the Mid City Centre 2000 at Trentham this Saturday. Festivity galloped with Zelazny, a candidate for the Francis, Allison, Symes Handicap at Trentham. Zelazny worked in good style as well. He looks ready for a big effort in the $BOOO race which has drawn a small field. . , Recent rain has taken the fire out of the Awapuni course proper, which was popular for gallops yesterday morning. Festivity and Zelazny were timed over 1200 m in 1:20, the last 600 m in 40s, and they finished together. Festivity has drawn wide at Wellington, but could still go close to

winning. Garry Phillips rides her and Jim Walker is on Zelazny. >

Cornwall King, another in the first leg of the double at Trentham, was in good form, running 1200 m in 1:19.6, the last 600 m in 39.6. He has been going fair races and will rate a top chance in the 2200 m race. Sonic, which has not lived up to her breeding in trials, ran 1200 m in 1:20, the last 600 m in 395. Harp’s daughter wilt have another try at the Levin trials tomorrow.

Reasonable Lady, looking in great order, ran 600 m in 37.55. She has freshened since her recent run of success and is being prepared for Christmas racing. Captain Morgan and Wings of Apollo were paired over 800 m in 535, the last 600 m in 395. Wings of Apollo has a chance against the maidens at Trentham, but Captain Morgan, which

ran a bold race last start at Stratford, was unlucky to be eliminated from his Trentham race.

Shagroon, which races at Wanganui next Tuesday, ran 800 m in 525, the last 600 m in 38.45. Zephyrmint strode over 800 m in 51.55, the last 600 m in 38s. She is making good progress again. Darkie San, a trials winner last week and a Trentham candidate, covered 1200 m in 1:21, the last 600 m in 40s. Irish Anchor and Running Gold required 1:21 for 1200 m, the last 600 m in 41s. Running Gold looks a chance at Trentham. Alamo, a candidate for the Colenso Plate at Trentham on Saturday, worked well over 1200 m in 1:19.6, the final 600 m in 39.6 s and stablemate, Tiroji, another acceptor for Wellington, was timed over 800 m in 545. She could run a good race in the Symes Sprint.
