Injustice looks back to best

Special correspondent Auckland Form in the T.A.B. double at the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting at Ellerslie this afternoon, and particularly the way Injustice races in the Lion Red Mile, could become a real influence on favouritism for the Avondale Guineas next Saturday week. Injustice was the top-rated two-year-old in the Free Handicaps last season. Just lately, in his last three starts, he has begun to look good again, especially in the way he ran on for his placings at the New Zealand Cup meeting. Though only fourth, he looked as good a finisher as any in the New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas and he ran third, again running on, behind Random Chance in the weight-for-age Canterbury Gold Cup. If he wins today’s Lion Red Mile, second leg of the T.A.B. double, running the 1575-metres out strongly, he will earn consideration as a threat to Weston Lea in Avondale’s big three-year-old race, over 2000 m. Jetbet: 2

Injustice is the only three-year-old in the Lion Red Mile, the other second season horses of any quality being mainly in the 1300-metre Paxus Plate, which is restricted to runners in that age group. The hardest for Injustice to beat will probably be That’s Jack and Beach Tango, though there was some doubt early in the week whether That’s Jack would start. He ran second at Pukekohe last Saturday. Pikeson, Final Brae and a New Plymouth Visitor, Queen High Noon, will get most attention in the Paxus Plate first leg of the T.A.B. double, with Stanley also interesting though he was an acceptor as well for the lesser Argus Questar Sprint. Final Brae, when third, and Pikeson (fourth) both ran well last time, in the 1400 m Plaza Purse at Te Rapa on November 14. So did Queen High Noon evidently, when runner-up at Levin last Wednesday to Golden King.
