'Good response’ from home gardeners
A survey of home gardeners in Christchurch has drawn a “very good” response, according to its organisers, Kunie Sugio and Graham Densem of Lincoln College. Three thousand Christchurch residents were canvassed with a postal questionnaire and almost 50 per cent replied by the required date. "The normal reply rate for such surveys is about 30 per cent, so we are very happy with our result,” said Mr Densem, a senior lecturer in landscape architecture at Lincoln.
The aim of the survey is to gather data on the contribution of home gardeners to Christchurch’s “garden city" image. Leading the investigation
is a Japanese landscape architect, Mrs Kunie Sugio, a visiting researcher at the college, and she is working in association with Mr Densem. The qaestionnaire covered a wide range of gardening-related - information and included questions ..such, as, how many hours a'week do you spend gardening; why do you do gardening; do you like gardening; and, how much gardening contact do you have with your neighbours? To encourage people to respond to the questionnaire all replies were elig-
ible for a "lucky .draw” with three $lOO voucher prizes for either plants, groceries, petrol or books. The draw has been held and the winners notified.
