Interest drop tipped
Mortgage interest rates could be as low as 14 or 15 per cent next year, according to financial institutions. Both the United and the Countrywide building societies believe that rates of 14 or 15 per cent are likely but are divided on when the rates will fall to this level.
Mr Tony Kunowski, corporate affairs manager for the United Building Society, predicted that these would be the rates by April, “assuming that the underlying rate of inflation remains the same."
