Salute for Royals
A 21-gun salute will herald the arrival of the King and Queen of the Belgians at Christchurch Airport this afternoon. ' R.N.Z.A.F. Base Wigram is providing - a 100-member honour guard for the Royal couple, and the Queen’s Colour of the Air Force will be paraded. The Army’s 3 Field Regiment from Burnham will honour the King and Queen with a 21-gun artillery salute at the airport. There will be music from the R.N.Z.A.F. Wigram Base band. King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola will arrive at 2.30 p.m.
Their short visit to Christchurch will be the start of the first Belgium Royal tour of New
Zealand. A busy five-day Itinerary will take them to both islands. They leave on December 6. On their arrival, King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola will be welcomed at a short ceremony. They will then go to the Canterbury Museum to see the Antarctic Wing. Later, they will attend a Civic Reception. The King and Queen will fly to Queenstown tomorrow morning, and also visit Arrowtown. Among those accompanying the King and Queen are members of the Royal household and representatives of the Belgium Foreign Ministry.
