Plans for 1990
Wellington reporter The Government plans to set up a commission to oversee arrangements for New Zealand to make in 1990 the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. The year 1990 is a landmark for a number of historic events.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Dr Bassett, said he had received a lot of advice to set up a commission of distinguished New Zealanders. He hoped its membership could be appointed before Christmas so it could begin work early in 1988.
