New Chief of Defence Staff appointed
PA Wellington New Zealand’s new Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant-General John Mace, takes up his appointment in Wellington tomorrow. He succeeds Air Marshal David Crooks, who has retired after 37 years service with the Royal New Zealand Air Force. As Chief of Defence Staff General Mace, aged 55, will hold the senior
military appointment in the Ministry of Defence for the next three years. He joined the New Zealand Army in 1953 and for the last three years has been Chief of General Staff in Army Headquarters, Wellington. His successor as Chief of General Staff, of the Army, is Major--General Don Mclver, who also takes up his new appointment today.
