Wage and salary rates rise 7.5 p.c.
Political reporter Ordinary-time wage and salary rates for full-time adult employees increased an average 7.5 per cent in the year ending in the September quarter. The Statistics Department said that privatesector wages and salaries rose 7.3 per cent, and this reflected almost all payouts from the 1986-87 wage round. Local authority rates increased 9.7 per cent in
the year ending in the June quarter, and for the Government the increase was 7.8 per cent The local authority and Government increases reflected the impact of the 7 per cent general adjustment, applicable to most workers in these sectors, as well as the Higher Salaries Commission incre3S6. The 1987-88 wage round will not influence the Prevailing - Weekly Wage Rates Index until the December 1987 quarter.
