Kiwifruit Industries, a subsidiary of Lane’s Industries, has exported a consignment of 1000 queen bees to Israel. This deal-is the first by the new venture pollination brokerage service and bee exporter established by Kiwifruit. Bee exports to Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom have also begun, reports Graeme Crossman, General Manager of Kiwifruit Industries. Last year, New Zealand exported about 40,000 queen bees. Canada imports more than 240,000 bees annually.
