Lavish production numbers
The 1946 film, “The Jolson Story," with its succession of lavish production numbers, has been released on the New Zealand video market by R.C.A.-Columbia-Hdyts. The film won Academy Awards for musical scoring and sound recording. Larry Parks was also
nominated for an award for best actor, for his portrayal of the minstrel and jazz performer, Al Jolson, The film was Parks’s ticket to stardom, and he made a sequel three years later. His career was ruined In the Communist witchhunts of the 19505.
The film features 25 songs by Jolson, including “My Mammy," “You Made Me Love You," “There’s a Rainbow Round My Shoulder,’ “I’m Sitting on Top of the World," “Toot Toot Tootsie,” “Swanee,” and “Calfornla Here I Come.” The rating is G.
