League appointments
The New Zealand rugby league test coach, Tony Gordon, and his immediate predecessor, Graham Low, will both be involved in preparing a Rest of the World team to meet Australia at the Sydney Football Stadium next July. Mr Gordon has been chosen as one of the selectors for the composite side, which will be coached by Mr Lowe, who is presently in his second season as mentor to the highly successful Wigan club in England. The other selectors are the
great Britain coach, Mai Reilly, and the chairman of the Australian Rugby League, Ken Arthurson, as convener. The Australia-Rest of the World game is to be a highlight of Australia’s Bicentennial celebrations. In spite of his loss to the Kiwis in Brisbane last winter, Don Fumer has been reappointed as Australian test coach for the home series against the British tourists. Mr Furner had previously guided the Kangaroos through an unbeaten tour of Britain and France.
