North Canterbury Adventure structure almost complete

A fourth working bee completed most of the adventure structure at the John’s Street Playground on Tuesday evening. The Rangiora Round Table Service Club began building the wooden struc-’ ture on October 3 and now only two slides and a firemen’s pole are required to finish the job. The structure is for children of all ages and is linked with the existing playground fort. The vice-president of

the club, Mr Paul Bradshaw, said he was surprised how much more the playground was being used by children since the adventure structure was built. “The whole playground is seeing a lot more use now. It was virtually a white elephant before,” he said. The Rangiora Community Development Officer, Ms Jane Spittai, helped the club to mark the site, arrange for materials and

finalise the design details. The Rangiora Girl Guides were keen to paint a mural at the playground — four wall boards, each reflecting a different season of the year and including storybook characters. The boards could be free-standing or attached to the fence on the east side of the playground, said Ms Spittai. Gifts of cans of waterbased house paint would be appreciated for the job.
