N.Z. gladdens cast

By

KAY FORRESTER

1U nCUUIgWU The cast of the Broadway musical, “A Chorus Line,” greeted the show's arrival in New Zealand with relief. This is the first English speaking country the show based on true stories about dances, has played on its world tour. In the three weeks of playing to virtually full houses in Auckland and Wellington the actors have got more response and laughter than during the 10 weeks in Japan and several more in Europe. The language barrier and the natural reserve of Japanese about applauding and responding during the show made things difficult for the performers. The Broadway production opens at Christchurch’s Theatre Royal for seven performances on December 5. The production, probably the first full Broadway production to tour this country, has played for the last 12 years on Broadway, won nine Tony Awards, a New York Critics Circle Award and a Pulitzer Prize.
