Ankorman best in useful field

By

JEFF SCOTT

Ankorman, a grass-track specialist and boasting an impeccable form background, is hard to go past in the D. B. Geraldine Trust Cup Handicap at the Orari meeting tomorrow.

The first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Geraldine Trotting Cub’s meeting has drawn a useful field of intermediategrade stayers. Ankorman, an impressive winner of the Waikouaiti Cup over tomorrow's distance of 3200 m, in a track record 4:17.4, continued his fine form at the New Zealand Cup meeting, with seconds to False Image and Speedy Cheval respectively on the first two days, then produced another fine staying effort to hold out Megatrend over 2600 m mobile on the last night of the carnival last Saturday. Last season’s New Zealand Oaks winner, Young Eden, made a promising debut from Richard Brosnan’s Kerrytown stable last Saturday, finishing strongly late to beat all but Great Provider. Brosnan, who has been headed off by just one point in the national trainers’ premiership by Qevedon’s Roy and Barry Purdon, will be looking to pull back the 20-19 deficit with his usual strong line-up around the country circuit, and Young Eden is one of his leading prospects. Light Foyle, another noted grass-track stayer, missed the final night of the NZ Cup meeting with a stone bruise flaring up, but cannot be ruled out of this. Third to That’s That in the Methven Cup back in September, he beat all but Emcee in Jetbet 6 Race 1 12J» NORTH ENO FORD HANDICAP TROT $3400; CO; 2600 m 1 076 Proud Adio* 1 P. the Invercargill Cup in October and was the runner-up again to Emcee at Addington on Show Day, returning a slick 3:16.31 for his placing after moving up over the last round. Premier Bromac, which led over the last 2300 m to win over tomorrow’s distance on the first night of N.Z. Cup meeting, is a solid stayer sure to be thereabouts again, while Dream Lustre paced a fine race fresh-up last week over 3200 m and could get some of it again. Nardin’s Belle and Bionic Raider are resuming but have looked in good trim at the trials and appeal as upset place prospects. Look, which trotted a Cl class record of 2600 m at Addington with a 3:27.57 clocking on the first night of the N.Z. Cup meeting, will be a firm fancy for the second leg of the T.A.B. double, the Ferrier Woolscourers Handicap. She was parked out for most of the running on that occasion, but kept up a strong performance, suggesting she is on the threshold of some worthwhile form. Miss Govern, an easy winner on grass at Waikouaiti two starts back and a game third to Game Nian and Kylies Pride in the C2 and faster trot on the first night ot the N.Z. Cup meeting after also being parked out, should prove Look’s toughest rival. 2 Trueo 2 T. Butt It 3 1042 Lord Rojo 3 P. Shand It 4 195 Exposure 4 J. Hay It 5 0 Hi Mac 5 D.
