Junior pairs bowls

Michael Anderson and Murray Shaw, of Linwood, won the inaugural Wrightcars Toyota and Runaway Holidays junior pairs bowls tournament held at the Linwood bowling club recently. They combined to beat Brian James and Roland Adams, of Kaiapoi, in a tight match which saw successive scores on four ends swing the margin. Anderson and Shaw led 134 and the rest of the game looked a formality, but James and Adams had other ideas and clawed back into the game to trail 9-13 after 12 ends were played, and with' just three ends left. But accurate draw play from Anderson and Shaw secured them a 2-t lead on the next two ends and at 16-9 the last end was not played. Anderson and Shaw will

now travel to Auckland to play in the Papakura junior classic pairs tournament from January 8-10 next year. If they secure first place in this tournament they will receive a trip to Australia to play in an invitation junior pairs tournament later in the year. Results: Semi-finals:: B. James and R.
