Strike vote confirmed
Members of the New Zealand Journalists’ Union have voted to authorise their national council to call industrial action. In a ballot taken last week, 74 per cent of journalists voted in favour of the authorisation, said the national councillor for Canterbury-Westland, Mr Conrad Jackson.
National award talks broke down on November 10, but are scheduled to resume on Thursday and Friday this week. The union has claimed a 20 per cent wage increase, incorporating an over-all payment for productivity potential arising from acceptance of a new-technology agreement.
