Tight cycling finishes at Denton Park

The appearance of William Rastrick made for tight racing in the senior A track cycling races of Denton Park on Wednesday evening. With Jon Andrews and Nigel Donnelly also competing finishes were extremely close.

The evening’s feature race, the 8000 m scratch race was keenly contested with Rastrick eventually getting the better of the field. The race started with a field of 22 riders and there were many unsuccessful attempts at breaking by riders. Stuart Lowe made a good break at 5600 m and was joined by Murray Steele a further 200 m round the track.

With only 800 m to go the couple had put 170 m on the field, however an explosive charge by the bunch over the last 600 m resulted in Lowe and Stuart being caught 50m short of the line.

Rastrick led this charge for the last 250 m for a convincing win ahead of Richard Scott and Donnelly. Because of his good riding, Scott maintains his lead in the season’s distance feature scratch race series. Results were:— Senior A grade:—
