Litter haunting Chch company

Paper litter flying in the wind is blowing back to haunt a Christchurch photographic processing company which is not responsible for it. On Thursday, a Woolston resident, Mrs Natalie Carlisle, and several helpers collected about 100 pieces of white paper lying around the Cathedral. They were all old account statements from Jumbo Prints, Ltd. Complaints of more statements littering the city were received by the company yesterday. The manager of Jumbo Prints, Mr Lindsay Riddle, said he was grateful for the public’s concern but the company had changed hands since the dates printed on the statement and there was little he could do.

The statements came from the old Jumbo Prints building in Peterborough Street where demolition had stalled because the owner, Pacifica Scroll, Ltd, was in receivership, he said. The statements should have been removed from the site before the demolition, said Mr Riddle. He had been in touch with the police about the matter and tried to secure the papers himself. Irresponsible people were removing them from the site and littering the city with them, he said. “The financial problems surrounding Pacifica Scroll, the old building and now the litter are all reflecting badly on our company and it is not our fault,” Mr Riddle said.
