Paraplegic found stranded on cliff
PA Auckland A paraplegic man, flung from his runaway wheelchair to the bottom of a rugged gully, spent more than 30 hours trying to claw his way up a bank. The police said the Glen Eden man, aged 26, was a third of the way up the 25m bank when his cries for help were heard by a nearby resident He was taken to Auckland Hospital suffering from hypothermia and abrasions.
The man was found propped against a tree yesterday afternoon by an Oratia resident, Mr Max Edwards, who had heard faint cries for help during the day. “At first I thought it was only kids.” The man looked relieved and relaxed completely when discovered, said Mr Edwards. The man’s wheelchair had plunged over the bank and sent him catapulting to the bottom of the gully. 1
