Woman sent for trial
Four sales of cannabis to two under-cover constables in the space of
nine days 1 last January were alleged in the District Court yesterday against Suzanne Violet Harper, aged 30, unemployed. After a preliminary hearing, Mrs A. Hill and Mr D. Wilson, Justices of the Peace, held there was sufficient evidence to
commit Harper for trial. They remanded her on bail pending a date for trial by jury in the Dis-
trict Court. The sales allegedly were made to one under-
cover constable on three occasions between January 8 and 17, the amounts of the drug totalling 50.5 g, and one sale of 10.8 g to another under-cover constable on January 13. Mr B. P. Callaghan, reserved his defence. Sergeant J. E. Dwyer said in the police outline
of the alleged offences that the two under-cover constables, while working in the Christchurch area,
became aware of Harper allegedly being involved in dealing in cannabis.
Harper was said to have arranged for the four sales through a third person.
When later interviewed, she allegedly admitted her part in arranging the sales but said she did not benefit financially from them.
She did not know why she became involved. It was not her cannabis, or the other man’s.
