REGISTRATION OF INTEREST HELMETS AND FRAGMENTATION VESTS APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED from companies to register their interest for the supply of Combat Helmets and Fragmentation Vests for trialling by the New Zealand Army. The helmet Is to provide optimum coverage of the occiputal and brain stem areas, be flame resistant and CW agent resistant. The fragmentation vest is to provide protection to the abdomen, thorax, and back (including the back of the neck), be flame resistant and CW agent resistant. The helmet and vest must be able to be used together. A copy of the specification is available upon request only to the Defence Contracts and Tenders Officer, Ministry of Defence, Private Bag, Wellington, New Zealand. Those companies registering interest must provide a certificate from a recognised Independent testing authority stating that those items offered prlvlde a V5O ballistic limit, when tested in accordance with MIL STD 662 as follows: (1) Desirable — 550 m/sec (2) Essential — 450 m/sec for Helmets; and provide a V5O 420 m/sec level of ballistic protection for fragmentation vests. A shortlist of suitable prospective tenderers will be selected from those firms responding to this Invitation to register their Interest. Only those firms on the shortlist will be included in future stages of this project. Those companies shortlisted from this registration of Interest will be expected to supply six samples of each Item, free of charge, to the New Zealand Army as soon as practicable after request for one year’s trialling. It should be noted that there is a possibility that these Items will be trialled to destruction.
