The inclusion of more community organisations and restructured Government departments has added 30 pages to the 1988 “HELP Directory” launched in Christchurch yesterday. About 30 people from community groups and the news media attended the launching of the director at the Christchurch City Council Civic Offices, at which the hosts were the Mayor, Sir Hamish Hay, and the chairman of the Canterbury Hospital Board, Mr Tom Grigg.
First published in 19?3, the “HELP Directory” is published every two years and is a guide to Christchurch’s community organisations, .and health, welfare and education services. Recreational groups, Government departments and local bodies are also listed. .
The directory is jointly published by the Christchurch City Council, and the Canterbury Hospital Board.
Sir Hamish said the fact that HELP was now in its eighth edition was proof it was well established and considered highly worthwhile by the . community.
The chairman of the HELP committee, Mr Peter Andrew, said 4000 copies of the guide had been printed and it followed a similar format to the previous editions. Although the number of Christchurch community organisations had grown, many had come and gone and he thought some groups might have been missed, he said. The edition was selffunding, aided by the City Council’s contribution of free use of its computer listings.
