The appointee would be the chief legal advisor to the department with a blend of advocacy, conveyancing and management. Advocacy experience in preparing cases, briefing witnesses and preparation of submissions for the Planning Tribunal, Waitangi Tribunal and Maori Land Court would be desirable. District Court work including debt collection is also required. Conveyancing experience of a general nature including commercial leasing is required. The applicant should have strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with senior personnel within and outside the ministry. The applicant is responsible for a staff of eight and the maintenance of a quality legal service.
