Greyhounds Call Me Grace shows game
The Christchurch owned and trained Call Me Grace showed her gameness when taking out the $3500 Lion Red New Zealand Oaks, at the Invercargill Showgrounds on Thursday evening. After settling in the trail behind the southern trained Hoddle Lass in the early running, Call Me Grace surged to the lead shortly after and put the winning break on her rivals. Dazzling Dame which had settled well back in
the early running ran on solidly for second one-and-a-quarter lengths behind the winner, with Natasha Havoc a further two-and-a-quarter lengths back in third place. Bred at New Brighton by Mr Dennis Watson, the black bitch has now enhanced her breeding prospects with this prestigious win. She is raced by Mr Trevor Joli, who was one of New Zealand’s top trainers until recent years before he gave it away, and Don and Gail Robin-
son who train the bitch. Although only a class two bitch, Call Me Grace has not had a lot of luck in her races, with bad draws and checks at vital stages being the main problem. It is hoped now she will have the confidence to go on even further. Other winners at the meeting were: Mint A Million, Shumway, Westmere, Kid Shelleen, Talking Star, Shiny Woman, Bijou Banks and Wild Irishman.
