Universities and research institutions. The Position The Officer in Charge is appointed annually and. as the seruor New Zealand representative in Antarctica, is response for all New Zealand activities in Antarctica. The appointee will be responsible for: • The management of the New Zealand Antarctic Research Pro gramme in Antarctica • Overall control ol Scott Base and all other Government activities in Antarctica • The overseeing ot New Zealand's Antarctic Treaty obligations The appointment will be lor the period July 1, 1988 — tale February 1989, with the first three months based al Antarctic Division. Christchurch, and the remainder at Scott Base. Qualifications The successful applicant will require the following key attributes and qualifications: •A proven record in management ot complex operational programmes •A successful background in personnel management • A high level ol communication skills, including liaison and negotiation at all levels •The ability to sustain output under pressure lor extended periods •An understanding of search and rescue operations, practical experience would be an advantage • A high standard of health and Fitness •Ideally be aged between 30 and 45 years Remuneration Remuneration is by way of salary and Antarctic Allowance and would be in excess ol $40,000 p.a.
