Condor bid fails
NZPA Sydney Sydney-based New Zealand yachtsman Rod Muir has failed in his bid to buy the maxi-yacht Condor to sail in this year’s Sydney to Hobart contest, race organisers said yesterday.
Muir flew to Auckland last week-end in an attempt to buy the yacht but, back in Sydney yesterday, decided it was too difficult trying to push the purchase through in time to prepare the boat for the classic, which Condor won last year.
Condor is to the hands of the law in Auckland after owner Bob Bell, the British insurance broker based in Bermuda, was hit by financial problems. '
