Beau Boy, Claytons appeal at Dargaville

Special correspondent Auckland Beau Boy and Claytons, so close to home, make particular appeal at Dargaville today. From nearby Ruakaka, Beau Boy and Claytons with Cuptie, the least distance to travel of any horses in the first leg of the Northern Walroa double, the DB Northland Cup. And they are in good form. Both had their latest races in a class 2 2000 metres at Avondale on November 13, Beau Boy for an impressive win, and Claytons, after being the pacemaker, for a creditable third. Beau Boy is usually slow to get going, but he nearly always manages a solid finish, as he did in his Avondale race to win by four and a half lengths. Besides Claytons the horses Beau Boy will have to beat include Hexagonal, Highbury, Just Sneeze, Broker’s Fancy and Top Plate, so the field is of a very good standard. Hexagonal, runner up in this race last year to Regal Advocate, looked pretty close to her best again when winning a 1600 metres at Ellerslie on November 7, while Top Plate and Just Sneeze were in good form also early this month at Hastings. Highbury will be going for a hat-trick of wins, having won twice at the Wellington spring meeting last month. He disappointed his trainer, Frank Ritchie, when unable to hold Guess in a gallop at Takanini on Tuesday but he looks well enough. Single Shot, in his return to racing after a lay-off since last autumn, will be speciall interesting in the second leg of the T.A.B. double, the Machinery Equipment 1400. Single Shot began to look good about this time last year and he improved to develop smart form during the summer. His first win came at this meeting 12 months ago and he managed three others before the season ended, at Ellerslie and Avondale (twice). 20 Hine Mei 18 55.0 21 Proud Guest 9 55.0 22 Just Desserts 21 55.0 Emergencies: Royal Chester, Hine Mei, Proud Guest, Just Desserts.
