Surf sponsorship

Lars Burner, of the Taylor’s Mistake Surf Lifesaving Club, a New Zealand surf title holder, has just signed a sponsorship deal with Cadbury Moro and will be using the sponsorship to travel to Australia and train for the upcoming surf season in New Zealand. Burner, until recently, employed as a pool attendant at Moana pool in Dunedin, has been training for this season’s surfing events since April, with only a short break after last season.

Bis time in Australia will be spent with the Manly Surf Club in Sydney, where he will stay for seven weeks before returning for the Canterbury surf championships on January 16 and 17. Two weeks after the Canterbury championships, Burner will compete in a test against Victoria state in New Zealand.

The South Island surf champs, on February 13 and 14, and the New Zealand championships in the last week of February, are also events Burner will be training for.

Then it is back to Sydney for the Australian championships in the .second week in March, and, a week later, the world championships on the Gold Coast -

Burner has been taking his surf lifesaving seriously this year. Bis training has included swimming, kayaking and running, and he is confident his fitness is right Australia, he considers, will benefit him in his bid for the upcoming competitions. “The weather is more conducive to good performances over there and they are more competitive,” he said just before flying across the Tasman.
