New York recovers
NZPA-AP New York Prices on the New York Stock Exchange recovered late on Wednesday (early yesterday, N.Z. time) after a day of volatile trading. Remarks by Republican politicians criticising the emerging agreement on cutting America’s Federal deficit sent prices down. At one stage the Dow Jones industrial average was down about
25 points. However, the decline failed to gain momentum and the session ended with the Dow Jones up 16.91 points at 1939.16. In London, price gains early in the Thursday session were pared as news came of the mid-session falls on Wall Street
The "Financial Times” 100share index closed 3.6 points up at 1663.7.
