Road dissenters upset
A group opposed to the widening of Fendalton Road is upset that the Waimairi District Council appears to consider the change inevitable.
In her chairman’s review of October, 1987, Mrs Margaret Murray advised that planning for the widening of Fendalton Road was continuing and that 1996 was the forecast completiondate.
The review omitted to mention that the council’s decision to widen the road to the full 30m designation had been appealed to the Planning Tribunal, said the convenor of the Fendalton Road Action Group, Miss Leone Stewart.
“In the interests of fairness and accuracy, we ask that, until a decision is made by the Planning
Tribunal, any council reference to upgrading Fendalton Road ; also makes it clear that the designation for widening is under appeal,” she said. The group lodged its appeal against the widening in August and although a hearing date had not been set, it was not expected to be heard until well into 1988, said Miss Stewart.
